A wise man, Atlanta

A man who wears glasses is thought of by some as more intelligent and more prosperous than a man who doesn’t having this effect, glass frames- as with other small yet important components of his attire such as collars- must bring out his best facial features. In addition, a man’s overcoat influences the outward impression he makes as much as -if not more than- his suit or regular apparel.  Decisions about the outer layer shouldn’t be left to chance.

Rich has paid attention to these important details when selecting his outfit and also admirably added a couple very colorful statements, the scarf and hat, which give his ensemble wonderful personality.  I wish I would’ve stayed longer and chatted with him since every piece of clothing he was wearing must have had great history behind it.

His coat is from designer Wayne Van Nugyen, glasses from Anne de Valentin in Toulose, and well read the comments below or just click on the image to find out more.

The Tie, Atlanta

The elements and principles of design are the building blocks used to create a work of art. These same elements and principles are also used to create this outfits. Starting from his tie the line, shape, direction, size, texture, color, and value are arranged with good balance, gradation, repetition, contrast, dominance, and harmony to create a unified outfit. If he was wearing a fedora and smoking a pipe I would’ve whipped out my easel and oil paints.

Dancer in the park, Atlanta

I started using a 50 mm Nikon f1.4 lens with my Nikon d90, it’s by far my favorite lens for shooting people. I really like the shallow depth of field and since it’s a fast lens it allows for crisp low light photography.

While sitting on a park bench switching between lenses I, noticed Karell (pictured above) and Ray walking, so I introduced myself. I could tell immediately that these guys were really into the idea of taking pictures and talking about what they were wearing which made for a fun and informative five minute photo session.
Karell, a dancer visiting from Montreal, is wearing Evisu Zip Yamane San canvas hi-tops, a denim jacket purchased in Italy, hat and glasses from New york, and a low v-neck graphic Tee. Some people have a rule never wear denim on denim, I personally never wear denim above the waist because I am yet to find a denim jacket that looks good on me, however he pulls of this outfit exceptionally well.

The low v-neck graphic Tee break up the material and effectively become a starting focal point. The white from the logo and lighter blue peaking out at his waistline share the same color with his shoes. The glasses frame his face well and topping it all off is the grey fedora echoing the soft material quality of his shirt. Overall great use of texture and color to show you can still wear denim on denim.

Pretty in Purple, Mannheim Germany

Approaching total strangers on the street and asking for a photograph can be near impossible if you’re in Germany and know only basic German unless you’re rescued by a lovley trilingual, make -shift, assistant such as Lilly. I’m really thankful she was kind enough to stick around and help through out the day.  As we walked and talked about what people were wearing I was introduced to some delicious snacks from vendors along the street such as roasted acorns, pretzels, and to my surprise a doughnut that should’ve come with a warning since it was filled with an alchoholic eggnog that squirted out of the back onto my jacket upon first bite.

Okay let’s move on to what she is wearing. When I look at this picture my eye is drawn to her gold handbag which perfectly complements her purple Heritage jeans. Her scarf, which is a very important accessory in Europe, has shades of purple to match her jeans. I’ve always been a fan of the rounded toe boot and I adore her short coat with small pockets by the hips. If you’re looking for a perfect example of how to look good and stay warm while on a casual stroll through the city, here it is.

Skater Girl, San Francisco

Right away her wild t-shirt grabbed my attention. Not only is it functional, it serves as the main color scheme for the entire outfit down to even her orange fingernail polish and turquoise WESC headphones.

Sunglasses & tights, San Francisco

While walking around Union Square in San Francisco I came across Jen having a quick lunch and immediately noticed her fun outfit.  She wore Dark boots which were the foundation to leggings, a grey skirt and a light top accented nicely by large white sunglasses. Her outfit forms a smooth gradient that guides the eye from head to toe.
